Name: Ryan Carroll Age: 14 School: Dunwoody High School Accomplishment: Having competed at the 2011 US Nationals, Dunwoody Freshman Ryan Carroll is in the top 25% of fencers in the country and is currently the Georgia Division points leader in his age group. Key to Awesomeness: Ryan Carroll started fencing in June 2009 and has loved it ever since. “I enjoy fencing because it involves very fast strategy and counter-strategy of mind games between the two fencers in order to get a single touch out of many in a bout,” said Ryan. Eilidh Geddes is headed to UGA this week, but said she will miss the community-feel of Dunwoody.

Key to Awesomeness: Studying paid off for 18-year-old Kelsey Lowrey. “I got a 33 the first time I took [the ACT]. I studied a lot in between tests, so I was expecting to do better. A 34 or 35. But a 36 was really exciting!” Kelsey said. Kelsey is referring to how studying helped her achieve a perfect score of 36 on the ACT, a college-entrance exam, often an alternate to the SAT exam. Name: Henry Guynn School: St. Jude the Apostle Catholic School Age: 9 years old Accomplishment: Henry Guynn won the Stock division at the Dunwoody Soap Box Derby, held on June 4th at First Baptist Church Atlanta and earned a spot in the All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship in Akron, Ohio. Key to Awesomeness: Henry Guynn was very surprised about winning the Stock division of the Dunwoody-Northeast Georgia Soap Box Derby. Presented by The Duwoody Kiwanis Club, the Derby is a community event with boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 17 competing. Name: Javier (Javi) S. Farach Age: 8 years old School: Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School Accomplishment: Javier was the youngest competitor in the Dunwoody Fencing Club's 8th Annual May Melee tournament held last weekend at Dunwoody Baptist Church. Key to Awesomeness: Javier, called Javi, started fencing at the beginning of this year, though he has been interested in the sport for a few years. He thought "it would be really cool to be a fencer" and is the only fencer in his family. Javi likes fencing because it is interesting, strategic and "you can make lots of friends and have fun."
