Dunwoody Lawmakers Attend DeKalb Cityhood Meeting

Fran Millar and Tom Taylor were the only Republican elected officials who attended Monday night's legislative town hall meeting.

At a meeting that seemed to be designed to slow the on-rushing train of cityhood, Democrats in DeKalb’s legislative delegation urged residents to consider a variety of issues before deciding to incorporate. “You all have gotten our attention in a very substantial way; we hear you,” said state Sen. Jason Carter (D-42) told the several hundred people in attendance. “I’m not sold on the idea of creating new cities, but the fact that we have so many people here tonight is a good sign.” The meeting was held this past Monday at Clairmont Hills Baptist Church, and was hosted by state Rep. Leaders Offer Conflicting Views at Second Cityhood Forum

Dunwoody officials offered their input during a recent meeting as another DeKalb community explores forming its own city.

A Dunwoody state lawmaker and a former city council candidate offered their input last week as North Druid Hills and Briarcliff communities continue to explore forming another municipality. Local leaders offered conflicting views on whether the area might be a good fit for cityhood at Oak Grove United Methodist Church on Tuesday. Former Republican state Rep. Kevin Levitas, District 82, organized the second meeting to include a balance of opinions, pro and con, on the subject. Republican state Rep. Tom Taylor, District 79, and Robert Wittenstein, a former Dunwoody city council candidate, were recruited to represent the positives of cityhood.
