Near Dunwoody: Chamblee Police Aid in Kidnapping Case

Chamblee Police are handling the investigation of a kidnapping case that resulted in an overnight Sandy Springs SWAT standoff.

  A Sandy Springs apartment complex was the center of activity for several hours overnight Monday, as police and North Metro SWAT gathered to free a woman allegedly being held by her ex-boyfriend. Sandy Springs Police Capt. Steve Rose said Chamblee Police have video of a man kidnapping the woman from a Walmart. He brought her back to his apartment at the Pointe at Canyon Ridge, Rose said, and kept her there. Rose said the SWAT team was on the way into the apartment by forced entry shortly after 4 a.m. “She walked out as they were coming in. It appeared she was beaten,” he said. “Afterwards they were going to go to Waffle House to eat. Nearby Sandy Springs: Police Investigating Saturday Shootings

Police units responded to a complaint of shots fired on Dunwoody Place west of Roswell Road.

  Sandy Springs Police report they are are working a shooting that occurred about 1:20 p.m., Saturday. Sandy Springs Police Capt. Steve Rose said units responded to a complaint of shots fired at the Colonial Grand Apartment area located on Dunwoody Place west of Roswell Road.  Approximately twenty minutes later, a Rural/Metro Ambulance, transporting a patient from the Johns Creek area, was flagged down at Glenridge Connector and Peachtree Dunwoody Road by two men in a car that contained a third man who had been shot several times in the leg. Nearby: 67-Year-Old Woman Died in Hit and Run in Sandy Springs

Sandy Springs Police are looking for a dark colored SUV with a white female passenger. The vehicle is suspected of hitting the elderly woman while she was on her way to the Community Action Center, which serves Sandy Springs and Dunwoody.

A 67-year-old woman died at North Fulton Hospital after being struck in a Tuesday night hit-and-run incident in Sandy Springs, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The woman was walking to the Community Action Center near Roswell Road and Hightower Trail when she was struck and suffered severe head trauma, according to a Channel 2 news report. The CAC serves both Dunwoody and Sandy Springs residents with a food pantry and other outreach services. Police are looking for a dark colored SUV that with a white female passenger. Update: Sandy Springs Man in Fatal Shooting Identified as Rapper; Internet Buzzes Over Shooting

Police identified a man shot multiple times near the Northside Hospital Women's Center as "Lil Phat," a rap musician from Sandy Springs.

Police have identified 19-year old Melvin Vernell III, known as music rapper "Lil Phat" of Corbin Lake Court in Sandy Springs, as the victim found shot Thursday evening in a parking deck adjacent to Northside Hospital Women's Center. Vernell had been shot multiple times and was found in a parked car. He was taken to Northside Hospital where he was pronounced dead, a short time later. Police are seeking two men who witnesses saw flee the scene towards Johnson Ferry Road, said Sandy Springs Police Captain Steve Rose. "One is tall, one is short," Rose said. Sandy Springs Shooting Victim Speaks

Adina Parson has been hospitalized but stable since her husband allegedly shot her eight times in the head.

Adina Parson, who was shot outside her Sandy Springs apartment eight times, has said her first words since the shooting. The woman said "hello" to her mother Tuesday, a friend of the family told Action 2 News. Parson is currently recovering at the Shepherd Center. Her husband is being charged in the shooting. Michael Parson is currently in the Fulton County Jail.
