Dunwoody Police Responds to Sandy Hook Shootings

Local police have coordinated with DeKalb Schools police to increase safety.

Police Chief Billy Grogan wrote an open letter to parents to describe the department's response to the Sandy Hook shootings. In it, Grogan recounts how he reached out to the Police Chief of DeKalb Schools to bring a coordinated response. DeKalb Schools officers have been sending their resource officers to drop in on schools that don't have one, which mainly includes elementary schools. To bolster that response, Dunwoody Police have stepped up high-visibility patrols outside the schools without DeKalb Police protection. The patrols will last through the end of the week, according to Grogan. To little, to late.... and what about the home burglaries the past few days that are out of control? Yesterday the DPD was doing an accident survey on Ashford Dunwody parkway. They had four officers (2 cars) there from 2:00pm-6:00pm, meanwhile around the corner in the Branches neighborhood, two homes were robbed in plain daylight!   more ›
