Some 20 trees will be planted at the popular garden Nov. 9 after community organizers won a national promotion via Edy's Fruit Bars.
The Dunwoody Community Garden is about to become bigger – a lot bigger. Councilman John Heneghan reports in his popular blog that at 10 a.m. Nov. 9 their will be a ceremony where the trees will be delivered by Edy’s Fruit Bars and the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. The orchard was won by the Dunwoody Community Garden through a dedicated online campaign that showed the support of Dunwoody’s gardeners in the national Edy’s promotion. The orchard will be extensive: 20 fruit trees and 15 berry bushes on the grounds surrounding the community garden. Organizers have selected apples, pears, plums, persimmon, pawpaw, pomengranate and more. The ceremony is the start of the hard work it will take to plant the orchard. Some has already been done, …

The Dunwoody Community Garden, a hub for community volunteerism and food donation, was named a winner in a national promotion for a fruit-tree orchard. The contest by Edy's Fruit Bars - which has been underway since April - was conducted via online voting. The local community garden wasn't one of the first round of winners. However, the garden had the backing of more than 33,600 votes in the second round of voting which ended at midnight Monday. The garden posted this message to supporters on its Facebook page - "Feeling gratitude for those who made this voting journey with us. All of us regulars continue voting tonight, and wonder what we will do without voting tomorrow.We have been voting daily since April 18!" The community garden …

First five of 17 winners will be announced Thursday; Garden in 8th place, hopes to be one of four second round winners
The Community Garden is in a strong position to win a fruit orchard as the Edy’s Fruit Bars Communities Take Root contest enters the last week of the first round of voting. The first five of 17 gardens that will win a fruit orchard from Edy’s Fruit Bars will be announced Thursday. The other 12 winners will be announced in groups of four on June 30, July 31 and August 31. All 17 winners will receive a fruit tree orchard, irrigation system, a groundbreaking party and Edy’s Fruit Bars to celebrate their new orchard. Also, to ensure that every applicant has a starting point to grow an orchard, Edy’s will donate three fruit trees to all participating organizations that do not win an orchard.
