Dunwoody Library Book Sale Continues Through Monday

Many items can be had for as little as 25 cents to a couple of bucks.

The Friends of the Dunwoody Library's book sale is going on through Monday. The sale began Thursday. Remaining hours, according to the branch's web page, are as follows: A Reporter Newspaper article says on Monday, people can fill a grocery bag at the sale for $6. Also, according to the report, there will be not only books but magazines, CDs, puzzles and more at the sale. Health Coach to Discuss "Eating for Energy" for Seniors

The program, part of the "Older Americans Month" series, will take place at Dunwoody library May 1.

Holistic health coach Jessica Hood is scheduled to visit Dunwoody library on Wednesday, May 1, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. to discuss "three simple steps to boost your energy throughout your day"  according to the library's website.  The program, "Eating for Energy" is aimed at people age 55 and older and is part of the "Older Americans Month" series. 'The Impossible' is Intensely Entertaining

In theaters this week, an impossible journey to the core of the human heart in the true life story of a family swept away in one of the worst natural disasters in our lifetime.

A family of five begin their winter vacation in Thailand, looking for some fun in the sun. Soon their holiday turns into a nightmare as a giant tsunami rises up from the ocean and sweeps them away in "The Impossible." Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor head up this star-studded cast that tells the true story of one family's experience during the devastating 2004 tsunami that devoured Southeast Asia. The acting, though there is very little dialogue, is amazing and the special effects, especially in the first 45 minutes, are mind-boggling. Watts is being considered for an Oscar for her performance but the kids, in my opinion, steal every scene in which they appear. The film runs two hours, and it is a bit sappy at times, perhaps too sentimental. …

Congressman Price Votes Against Fiscal Cliff Deal

Like many Republicans, Price did not agree with the compromise.

Conservative Rep. Tom Price (R-District 6) voted against the last-minute fiscal cliff deal passed by Congress over New Year's, according to govtrack.us. A real solution includes both revenue increases and spending reductions," Price recently said on CNN's "State of the Union." Price isn't the only member of Congress - especially among the GOP - to believe the compromise was ill-fitted to the need and will only lead to more hard decisions soon. The deal raises taxes on individual incomes over $400,000 and over $450,00 for household incomes and a portion of estates more than $5 million. The compromise is said to allow Congress to have more time to work on government expenditures.

MJCCA Brings Church to Pets

Rabbis will bless pets and deceased pets at an event Sunday.

You’ve probably heard of 'bring your dog to work day', but to church? Well you can, sort of. The Marcus Jewish Community Center is holding a blessing and a pet ceremony at Brook Run Park from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. All are invited. Rabbu Brian Glausman and Rabbi Analia Bortz will recite prayers foir pets and include memorial thoughts for deceased pets. The pets will be individually recognized. People are encouraged to bring well behaved pets on leashes. Pet adopyions will also be a part of the event.  A food truck and pet toys and treats will also be available.

Old Hickory House Passes Health Reinspection

The restaurant passed two reinspections following a failing grade in September.

The popular Dunwoody restaurant Old Hickory House scored an "A" on  DeKalb County reinspections of the restaurant, which followed a failed inspection Sept 19. The violations were cleared up on two inspections on Sept. 25 and Oct. 1. The restaurant scored a 100 on the Sept. 25 inspection and a 92 on an Oct. 1 visit, according to DeKalb County Health records. On the Oct. 1 follow-up inspection, the restaurant - located on 5490 Chamblee Dunwoody Road -  scored a 92. The only violation found by inspectors that day were that utensils and linens were not properly stored and dried on the reinspection, according to the health inspection report.
