Black Friday Madness: Tales from Dunwoody and Across the Country

As shoppers competed for "door busting" deals and other bargains Friday, the yearly shenanigans began to pile up.

It's Black Friday, and it's already happening in Dunwoody. A suspect at Perimeter Mall was arrested by police for suspicion of keying someone's car in the parking lot of Perimeter Mall. Why? Because a coveted spot oh-so-near the unbeatable bargains inside the mall was taken - apparently - and the person who lost out on the spot in the early morning was none to happy about situation. Black Friday may be hectic out there, but some of the best deals of the year are offered Friday.

Some “Black Friday” shopping has started, and some is just about to begin. At Dunwoody Patch, we want to point you in the right direction for some shopping deals on Friday; the busiest shopping day of the year. Perimeter Mall - with its multitude of retailers - opens the doors early and they don’t close until late this evening; 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.. Some stores are going the extra mile and will be opne until the wee hours. The real late nighters are Aldo, American Eagle Outfitters, Cache, Express, Express Men, Macy’s, New York and Co., Sakkio Japan, Starbucks, which opens at 3:30 a.m., Urban outfitters and White House Black Market. They've become such a part of the American economic scene their names are instantly recognizable: Black Friday. Cyber Monday. And the more recent addition, Small Business Saturday, which tries to make sure locally-owned businesses don't get forgotten in the holiday shopping frenzy. This year, some of the grand retail plans have come with an extra helping of controversy. Target stores will open their doors to shoppers at 9 pm on Thanksgiving night, prompting several petition drives in protest. The Mall at Stonecrest in Lithonia will be opening, for the first time in its history, at 12:00 am on Friday morning. Lenox Square is also opening at midnight. Dunwoody PD to Live Tweet Black Friday Calls

The department will be tweeting all of its calls on the busiest shopping day of the year and you can follow it on Dunwoody Patch.

Ever wanted to be a cop? Ever wanted to know how crazy it gets on Black Friday around Dunwoody but didn't want to be a part of the holiday crush? Well, you can find out both from the comfort of your home this Friday. Starting at 6 a.m. on Friday, the Dunwoody Police will tweet all of its police calls for a 24-hour period. And you can follow Dunwoody Patch Friday for the updates. We'll have a stroy running all day that will upload the tweets as they happen and in real time. The tweets will give people an idea of how busy the department is on Black Friday and what kind of calls they will be fielding on the busy shopping day. They will use their handle @DunwoodyPolice using the hashtag #dpdcalls.

Where to Find the Best Black Friday Deals Near Dunwoody

Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday rule the shopping roost after Thanksgiving.

If you have a black belt in Black Friday shopping, listen up: area big-box retailers are gearing up to corral bargain hunters even earlier this year—starting on Thanksgiving Day! Last week, Walmart announced that it would open its doors at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22 and offer holiday doorbusters while supplies last. These include deals on TVs, iPads, an electric scooter for $79 and a steam mop for $39. Not to be outdone, Target and Best Buy are also planning all-out holiday shopping assaults. Target's deals begin at 9 p.m. According to an ad leaked online, the best deals will be for TVs, a Nook, a Nikon camera and an XBOX 360 Kinect bundle. At Best Buy, doors open at midnight.
