Volunteers Needed for Dunwoody’s Annual Spruce-up Day

Jim Maloney, chair of Dunwoody's Volunteer Coordinating Committee says that hundreds of volunteers are still needed for Clean, Shine and Fix-up Dunwoody Day on Sept. 28.

More than 300 trees from Tree Atlanta will be planted during Clean, Shine and Fix-up Dunwoody Day on Sept. 28, according to Jim Maloney, chair of Dunwoody’s Volunteer Coordinating Committee.

On Monday, Maloney told Dunwoody City Council that hundreds of volunteers are still needed for the event that kicks off at 8 a.m., that Saturday, at North Atlanta Church of Christ.

“[It’s] the day we shine-up, clean-up and spruce up our city,” Maloney said. “In the past, we have mustered between 700 and 800 volunteers, but we will need more. Dunwoody High School has promised over 100 students. Georgia Perimeter has not yet committed…but they will.”

Maloney asked that the city use its website and homeowners association database to recruit more volunteers.

At the start of the event, groups are formed and jobs are assigned with tools and directions. A continental breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. At the end of the event, about 1 p.m, a barbecue lunch will be served.
