Henry Guynn was very surprised about winning the Stock division of the Dunwoody-Northeast Georgia Soap Box Derby. Presented by The Duwoody Kiwanis Club,  the Derby is a community event with boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 17 competing.  Now in its fourth year, drivers hail from Clayton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Henry or Rockdale Counties. Consisting of two divisions, Henry won the Stock division for ages 8 to 13 year olds.

Henry also participated in the Derby last year.

“I built the car with my dad in our basement. I drove the USA Test Prep car. This year, I used the same base, but used my sister's shell and was sponsored by Mellow Mushroom,” Henry said.

“The best part about building the car was going to the clinics with my dad and having donuts," he said.

The All American Soap Box Derby is a youth racing program which has run nationally since 1934. The winners go to Akron, Ohio, in July to compete in the 74th annual All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship finals.

Henry is looking forward to traveling to the World Championship this summer.

“While we are there, we're going to go to Cedar Point, the US capital of roller coasters and maybe Niagra Falls” said Henry.

He is also excited for the opportunity to meet kids from all over the country, explaining that, “Everyone brings little things from their area to trade. I am giving out Chip Nation bracelets to support my friend, Chip Madren.”

Henry enjoys playing lacrosse, football and basketball, and spending time with friends. He also plans to hang out at the pool and go to the beach this summer.
