Bancroft Goes the Distance in 10-3 Dunwoody Win Over Chamblee

Wildcats remain undefeated in region play; set up showdown with defending champ Marist.

Wes Bancroft pitched a complete game six hitter with nine strikeouts and third baseman Chris Hale hit a three-run homer to lead to a 10-3 victory over Region 6-AAAA rival Chamblee, Wednesday.

“Wes is an excellent pitcher,” said Dunwoody head coach Chan English. “He’s won some big games for us, and he never gets enough credit. He’s underrated and under recruited.”

With the win, Dunwoody improves to 8-3 and 4-0 in region play, setting the team up for a critical game on Friday with first place on the line at Marist.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on three hits, including an RBI double by Stelen Stulberger and a well-executed sacrifice bunt by Zach Tonner.

Chamblee starting pitcher, Stephen Gaulden, settled down in the second inning and the Bulldogs cut the deficit to 5-2. But Dunwoody rallied and posted four runs in the bottom of the fourth, three of them on Hale’s towering home run over the center field wall.

Clean-up hitter Jared Martin went 3-for-3 with two runs with two RBIs, Bancroft was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Tonner was 2-for-2 with three stolen bases in the Wildcats’ offensive explosion versus the Bulldogs.

Gaulden led Chamblee with two hits, both of them singles. Outfielder Anthony Brown added a single and a sacrifice fly.

“I give Dunwoody a lot of credit,” said Chamblee head coach Brian Ely. “They hit the ball hard in the first inning and put us in a hole. We tried to climb back in the game but just didn’t have enough tonight.”
