Womack Defeated on DeKalb School Board

Jim McMahan, a school activist, handily defeated Womack in this week's runoff for District 4. McMahan was an outpoken advocate for the school district's high-stakes consolidation.

Newcomer Jim McMahan defeated incumbent Paul Womack this week in a landslide victory in District 4.

McMahan garnered 65 percent to Womack's 35 percent. In electoral politics, that's a clear runaway.

Womack often created a voting block with local representative Nancy Jester ln budget issues. Jester represents Duwnoody.

Womack commented during the July 31 general election that the sentiment around the school board was "out with the old and in with the new." He ultimately fell victim to that.

McMahan focused on corruption in DeKalb schools, which apparently resonated with voters.

The two other District 4 challengers in the July 31 primary were Tom Gilbert and Jim Kinney, both of whom endorsed McMahan.

Womack told Patch he sensed the frustration among the public with the school board, but that little was aimed at him.
