Though Drew Exley has been racing for three years, winning the Dunwoody Soap Box Derby on June 4 was still a big deal. "I was very happy and surprised all at the same time," said Drew.

The Dunwoody-Northeast Georgia Soap Box Derby, which is presented by The Duwoody Kiwanis Club, is a community event with boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 17 competing.Β  Now in its fourth year, drivers hail from Clayton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Henry or Rockdale Counties. "The best part of building my car was working on it with my family," said Drew. "I enjoy making new friends with derby racing and spending time with my family."

The All American Soap Box Derby is a youth racing program which has run nationally since 1934. The winners go to Akron, Ohio, in July to compete in the 74th annual All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship finals.

Drew competed in Akron last year as a Region 7 Super Stock Rally Champion and is proud to represent Dunwoody as their Local Super Stock Rally Champion.

When he's not racing, Drew has his blackbelt in Tung Soo Do and is a percussionist in the Gainesville High School Big Red Machine Band. He is looking forward to traveling to the World Championships and participating in a band camp this summer.
