Two From Chesnut Charter Participating in Georgia Healthy Schools Summit

Last year, the Dunwoody school received a $5,000 grant to implement or improve physical activity and nutrition plans.

Last year, Chesnut Charter Elementary was the only Dunwoody school and one of 12 in Georgia to receive a health grant from Gov. Nathan Deal’s Student Health and Physical Education initiative, known as SHAPE, an announcement said.

Chesnut received $5,000 to implement or improve physical activity and nutrition plans.

This week, Physical Education teacher, Lonny Dykema and Angela Renals, co-chair of the school’s Wellness Action Team will discuss health, wellness and parent involvement during the inaugural Georgia SHAPE Healthy Schools Summit in Peachtree City. Renals will also describe how Chesnut’s Wellness Team has implemented the grant, including two new farm to school nutrition lessons launched during Physical Education classes. The event is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Public Health.
