Top College Lacrosse Teams Will Face off to Raise Funds for DHS

DHS Lacrosse team hosting Boston College, Florida State for non-conference game on Feb. 12.

Dunwoody High School Lacrosse will get an up-close view of two of the country's best college lacrosse teams on Feb. 12, and raise some funds for their first season while they're at it.

The Dunwoody High School Lacrosse Stix Booster Club will host a matchup between two top 10 Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) teams. The #6 ranked Boston College Eagles will travel south to face-off against the #8 ranked Florida State University Seminoles in an early-season non-conference game on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. The game will be played at North DeKalb Stadium, 3662 Pierce Drive, Chamblee, GA 30341.

Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults with all proceeds benefitting the Dunwoody High School boys lacrosse program in their first season of sanctioned GHSA competition.

Tickets are available for purchase online and additional information can be found at the Dunwoody Lacrosse Facebook page. Raffle tickets will be sold at the door.

“Hosting this game is a great way to introduce the community to high-level lacrosse and a tremendous opportunity for the program to raise money in support of our inaugural season.”said Dunwoody Boys Coach Evan Goldberg in a press release about the game. Goldberg is a former Florida State lacrosse player.

In 2011, DeKalb County Schools sanctioned the sport of Lacrosse to be played as a GHSA varsity sport at any DeKalb County High School as long as the school can raise funds to field a team.

Stix Club President Bob Freeman, more than 30 Dunwoody High School Lacrosse parents and players, and School Board Member Nancy Jester were a major factor in helping DHS achieve this goal.

The Dunwoody High School Boys Lacrosse club team is coming off a 2011 championship season, winning their bracket in the North Georgia Lacrosse League (NGLL). They were NGLL Division B Tournament Champions.

Don't Europeans play lacrosse? Or was it Indians? Not my boys though.

Lacrosse is a great sport. The new teams at DHS have given many more students the opportunity to play a varsity sport. A special shout-out to board member nancy Jester for making the girls' lacrosse team happen!
