Nearby Dunwoody: School District Awaits Word on Probation Status

School officials to hear Tuesday from Mark Elgart, CEO of the accreditation agency's parent company.

The DeKalb County School District will be updated on the status of their accreditation in a meeting called for 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Mark Elgart, CEO of AdvancED, the parent company of accreditation agency theSouthern Association of Colleges & Schools (SACS), will give the results from a Dec. 8-10 special review team's site visit.

On Dec. 17, 2012, SACS placed the district on Accredited Probation status, pending the resolution by the district of 11 ‘required actions’ by the end of 2013.

“I’m confident that our administration and school board have met and exceeded all 11 action items,’’ School Board Vice Chair James McMahan told Patch in early December before the review team's visit. “I would hope that the SACS’ review team would take all the hard work we’ve done the last nine, 10 months and remove us from probation.”

The called meeting will be held in the J. David Williamson Board Room at the
Robert R. Freeman Administrative & Instructional Complex, 1701 Mountain Industrial Boulevard in Stone Mountain.
