Monday's Vote on DeKalb School Closings Capped an Emotional Debate

The school board decided to "decommission" eight schools.

By a 7-2 margin, the DeKalb County Board of Education approved a redistricting plan Monday night that will close eight schools and move 6,000 to 7,000 students.

Here are the schools that will be closed: Atherton, Glen Haven, Gresham Park, Peachcrest, Medlock and Sky Haven elementaries; along with Avondale Middle and Avondale High.

The board did not redraw any district boundaries in the Dunwoody area, as some parents and community groups had requested.
