In recognition of National Teacher’s Day on May 6, Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody awarded Christiane Wyckoff a $500 Shop Etc. mall gift card.

Wyckoff is a fifth-grade teacher at Sope Creek Elementary School in Marietta.

A parent who nominated Wyckoff described her as a “Top Notch Teacher” because of her kindness and true compassion for teaching. The nomination recognized Wyckoff's teaching style of preparing students not only on the required elements for elementary school, but also the necessary social skills for transitioning students to middle school, high school and beyond.

“I greatly appreciate everyone who voted for me and Perimeter Mall for recognizing teachers and the dedication we give to our students,” said Wyckoff.  “I love teaching and receiving this honor from my community is the greatest feeling.”

Perimeter Mall asked its Facebook followers to nominate and vote for top performing teachers in the community.

Wyckoff received the most votes on the mall’s Facebook page from April 10-22.

As a retired educator I congratulate Mrs. Wyckoff on being nominated...I just didn't realize Cobb County was part of the Dunwoody / DeKalb "community" As stated in the article: Perimeter Mall asked its Facebook followers to nominate and vote for top performing teachers in the community.

Before I get "beat up" for criticizing a teacher's efforts, my point was toward Perimeter Mall's use of the word "community".
