Five Things to Do This Weekend (Oct. 28-30): Halloween Edition

Welcome to "Five Things You Need to Know for the Weekend," a Dunwoody Patch column that sifts through the long list of events competing for your time to offer our pick of five things worth doing with your time off.

1.. It’s the weekend before Halloween, which means plenty to do in and around Dunwoody.

Friday night, the and legends . The event starts at 7 p.m. The event may bee too scary for young children, organizers say. The event is free, but donations collected will benefit Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta.

Alison’s Restaurant will be holding a . The contest will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Alison’s, 5500 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. There will be a boy and girl winner in two categories (8-years-old and under, and 9 to 12 years-old). Winners will get three season tickets to Six Flags over Georgia. Call or stop by the restaurant to register. Registration is $10 per child, which will be matched by Alison and donated to Children’s Healthcare.

For adults, is holding its . There will be $2,000 cash and prizes costume contest, DJS and live music. The contest must be entered between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

2. The is holding a sale this weekend with a twist. The, the annual fundraiser for the center, has around 500 ceramics for sale (prices ranges from $5 to $50. There will also be sample chili recipes from students, instructors and friends.

The sale goes from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

 

3. See short plays at Dunwoody High School. The starts Saturday morning at 8 a.m. at . The event is free, and will include shows from Lakeside, Redan, Tucker and Carver. Dunwoody’s Wildcat Players will take the stage at 2:30 p.m.

 

4. Wash your car, help a horn player. The from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Band members and volunteers will be dressed in Halloween garb as they wash cars. The wash will be held at the , 5468 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd.

 

5. Donate blood. The Sunday morning at . Schedule your appointment time at redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code: dunwoodyumc. The drive runs from 8 a.m. to 1 pm.
