Financial Audit of DeKalb Schools Shows Central Office Discrepancies

A financial audit of the school board shows that cuts to the central office may not have been executed as the school board approved in 2010.

An audit released ahead of Monday night’s DeKalb School board meeting shows that the salary expense of the district’s office could have exceeded by $20 million from 2010 to 2011, according to wsbtv.com.

The audit report is in contrast to an ostensible shrink in the budget of the central office when the board approved in 2010 of cutting 150 jobs to save more than $10 million.

But there’s a discrepancy now as to how many positions may have actually been cut, according to the report. The finance department reported 148 cuts, while the human resource department counted 109.
