Free Small Business Help: Consultant to Speak Aug. 30 to Georgia Association of Business Brokers

A consultant with the University of Georgia’s Small Business Development Center will speak on Aug. 30 about ways the agency can work with the Georgia Association of Business Brokers to help or add value to Georgia’s small businesses.

Gloria F. Pobst works with the Gwinnett Center of Georgia’s Small Business Development program, which has a statewide network of offices that offer one-on-one consulting and formal classroom training to existing businesses and individuals interested in starting a business.

“For many small businesses, the economic climate for the past several years resulted in business plans not working as they once did,” said Pobst, who has more than 25 years of experience in marketing, sales support and strategic planning.

Georgia SBDC Consultants meet with small businesses for a variety of reasons – often reviewing or developing a marketing plan, reviewing business records and report processes for consistency and accuracy, developing a cash flow management plan and seeking financing for growth and/or expense reduction.  SBDC Consultants identify and gather data to diagnose the situation, and then help the business owner to develop and analyze plans of action to keep the owner’s business moving forward and to build value.

The GABB is the state’s only professional association dedicated to buying and selling businesses.  Ms. Pobst will speak on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at the South Terraces Conference Center, 115 Perimeter Center Place, Atlanta, GA, 30346.  The meeting is free and open to the public. Networking begins at 9:45 a.m. with free a light breakfast before the 10:30 a.m. meeting.

Ms. Pobst specializes in “cradle to grave” marketing of products and services, including development and implementation of business and marketing plans, preparation of capital and expense budgets, financial management of product/service lines and motivating the sales force.  She has an M.B.A. in marketing and management from the University of South Florida.

An experienced GABB business broker can help a buyer find businesses for sale, negotiate a fair price and obtain financing.  A broker can help an owner evaluate and price a business, market and advertise to prospective buyers, negotiate and close a deal.  The GABB Web site lists hundreds of businesses for sale throughout Georgia, as well as around the country.
