DeKalb Schools Chief projects Deficit

A 2 mill tax increase will help close a projected deficit for the coming school year, according to Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson.

DeKalb schools Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson proposed a budget Wednesday that would raise taxes by 2 mills to help close a projected $73-million deficit in the coming budget year, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The gap is related to a drop in property values in the county and rising costs in the district, according to the report. The proposed budget would also increase the student-teacher ratio, which could lead to more crowded classrooms.

Leave us a comment. Would be willing to pay more taxes to cover the deficit for DeKalb schools?
