Braves Home Opener Makes News for Burning American Flag

Pyrotechnics that caught the American flag on fire at the Atlanta Braves' Tuesday home opener have been shared across the country via social media.

The Atlanta Braves are making news across the country for their Tuesday home opener at Turner Field against the New York Mets.

Not for the game itself, but for a mishap with pyrotechnics at the game, which caught the American flag on fire. Photos of the blazing banner have been shared nationwide on Facebook and Twitter.

Braves spokesperson Beth Marshall told 11Alive News it happened because of new pyrotechnics. For the first time, they put pyrotechnics on Braves Vision (that's the large HD screen). One of the pyrotechnics flew at the flag and lit it on fire. Marshall said the material of the flag is flame retardant, so it went out on its own.
