The proposed intersection improvements involve adding turning lanes to Tilly Mill Road, North Peachtree Road and Peeler Road to improve safety and reduce traffic congestion.

The improvements were identified in public surveys for the city's comprehensive transportation plan.

Traffic analysis showed that the intersection has very high levels of traffic, particularily during peak morning rush hours. The goal of the improvements is to cut that traffic back up.

Among other findings in the analysis of that intersection, according to the city:

• The accident rate on Tilly Mill is above the state average
• Approximately 65 percent of the total number of crashes at the Tilly Mill and North Peachtree intersection were rear-end type crashes, which are likely a result from congestion and insufficient storage lengths at the intersection.
• Approximately 42 percent of the total number of crashes at Peeler and North Peachtree were angle type, which likely were caused from vehicles entering the intersection from the unsignalized approach on Peeler Road when there was not an appropriate gap in traffic on North Peachtree Road.
