Pedestrian Walkway Opens at I-285 Interchange

Dunwoody Police report that the newly configured interchange is now open to pedestrians.

A rebuilt pedestrian crossing is now open at the reconfigured Ashford Dunwoody, I-285 intersection. according to Dunwoody Police.

The intersection opened in late spring after it was reconfigured into Georgia's first diverging diamond interchange, a novel design that allows interstate traffic to enter the freeway on both sides of the interchange.

The new pedestrian walkway runs down the center of the I285 overpass and is protected from traffic by a 5-foot concrete barrier. The pedestrian access has been closed since June to do the construction work - which included the walkway, signal timers and pedestrian islands.
