Opinion: Defibrilllators Save Lives

Bob Lundsten, a local political observer and blogger, advocates for the widespread use of a device that has helped save lives.

Bob Lundsten, chief of staff for DeKalb Commissioner Elaine Boyer, writes on his blog that Automated External Defibrillators helped save a life last week after being used by the Dunwoody Police Deparment.

Lundsten said that it is the second time the AEDs have been used in a life-saving situation this summer.

"In a city where we keep track of miles of roads paved, how many awards we have for being "green,' the new striping on our repaved roads, this is a number that really has life and death implications," he wrote.

Lundsten said that the training of police officers is key and then advocates for the rescue equipment to be widespread.

"AEDs are no longer a luxury item that are carried in Police cars or Emergency Response Units.  They are pieces of rescue equipment that should be the standard in every office building in our city.  The same as we require fire extinguishers in every building, on every floor, we should now be requiring AEDs as well."
