'King Davis' Flier Mocks Dunwoody Mayor

One Dunwoody Charter Commission member wanted to address a flier mocking the mayor at a recent meeting of the commission.

The Dunwoody Charter Commission meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. to review the final sections of the city's five-year-old charter, but at the last meeting, one commission member wanted to know about a controversial flier.

Robert Wittenstein, a commission member appointed by the Dunwoody City Council, brought up a flier he'd downloaded from the popular blog, Dunwoody Talk.

Few people, if any, in the packed conference room had seen the flier before Wittenstein addressed what he called "an awful piece of trash."

The flier referred to Dunwoody Mayor Mike Davis as "King Davis" and encouraged residents to come out to the Charter Commission meeting on July 17 to make their voices heard about a recommendation from the commission on the funding of a possible fire department.

The recommendation includes a millage rate cap for fire and emergency services, but no requirement for a public vote if the City Council and Mayor choose to exceed that cap.

According to the post in Dunwoody Talk, the flier was allegedly distributed by a member of "Occupy Dunwoody."

The Dunwoody Charter Commission meets to discuss the city's charter on Wednesday, July 31, at 7 p.m. at 47 Perimeter Center East, Suite 400 (Conference Center), Dunwoody, GA 30346 (directly behind Dunwoody City Hall office building). The schedule of the Charter Commission meetings can be found on the City’s website.

Once the final two articles of the charter are reviewed, the commission will begin making any recommendations about issues not included in the charter's original six articles.
