Rain Barrel Workshop

The City of Dunwoody Sustainability Commission would like to invite the community to a rain barrel workshop as part of our Living and Learning series. The Living and Learning theme for April is "My Own Back Yard," which encompasses a wide range of sustainability practices that will have benefits right at home. Your rain barrel will allow you to take advantage of runoff from your roof that may otherwise carry debris and chemicals into storm drains and directly into our rivers and streams.

You can become a part of the water crisis solution by participating in a rain barrel class hosted by the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeepers. Participants will learn the importance of water conservation and the effects of storm-water runoff while still enjoying the benefits of maintaining a beautiful landscape. For a $40 registration fee, everyone in the class will receive a 60 gallon rain barrel donated by Coca-Cola, as well as gutter installation materials.

Interested participants will also have the opportunity to decorate a rain barrel for auction at the Dunwoody Art Festival, which will be held May 12 &13. Those artists will be reimbursed for the registration fee once it is entered into the contest. Proceeds from the auction will go to Grow Dunwoody, a student led community effort that seeks to develop and integrate an organic gardening program into the curriculum of our eight local schools, as well as the greater Dunwoody community.
