Mayoral Race: Inconsistencies in Mike Davis's Bio

Mayoral Candidate Mike Davis modifies his work history on his campaign bio

When Dunwoody mayoral candidate Mike Davis first launched his campaign in June, he did so saying he was the president of Asset Preservation Group.

However, in recent weeks, mentions of that company have been taken out of the bio on his campaign web site and the web site for Asset Preservation Group has been taken down.

Initially his press release said, “Davis is the owner of Asset Preservation Group, an insurance brokerage that specializes in life and long term care insurance.”

His new bio on his campaign website says he’s the president and COO of My Georgia Doctor, a medical marketing company.

Davis will face off against Bob Dallas in a run-off election for mayor on Dec. 6.

Davis said the initial bio was published with thoughts about his possibly restarting Asset Preservation Group if he were to be elected.

“I think it was a combination of looking to the future and probably putting the wrong one out,” Davis said, talking about his first bio. “We were writing it both ways.”

Davis said he currently works for My Georgia Doctor.

According to documents with the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, Davis created Asset Preservation Group LLC on Jan. 6, 2005 and dissolved the company on May 16, 2008.

Davis said he never actually did anything with Asset Preservation Group.

“I just had the name,” he said.

“I thought I was going to go in that direction, but ended up going with My Georgia Doctor,” Davis said.

Davis lists Asset Preservation Group as his job from 2002 to 2006 on his LinkedIn account, which is posted on his campaign Facebook page.

Though the web site for Asset Preservation Group has been taken down in the last few weeks, though it can be seen here through an internet archiving tool. Davis still owns the rights to the site.

Davis said throughout the campaign that if he’s elected mayor he’d step down from My Georgia Doctor, a Norcross company for which he’s President and COO.

Davis said he may restart Asset Preservation Group and if he finds some extra time for business.

“I was thinking if I ran for mayor I would resurrect that company that had been defunct for a few years,” he said. “All I have to do is go back to the Georgia Secretary of State.”

Even after a company is dissolved, the officer of that company is allowed to start it up again, said Michael O’Sullivan, spokesman for the Georgia Secretary of State’s office.

Dunwoody attorney Jamie Sibold, who initially looked into running for mayor but ended up not entering the three-candidate race, has been looking at Davis’s business records.

On Nov. 14, Sibold filed papers to create a new entity with the same name as Davis’s company – Asset Preservation Group L.L.C. Sibold said he made the filing to check if Davis still had rights to the name.

That filing was rejected because the previous company already existed, according to documents from the Secretary of State’s office.
