Dunwoody Could See Property Tax Increase Under County Proposal

DeKalb commissioners make first move on millage rate adjustment

Dunwoody homeowners could soon see their property taxes increase if DeKalb commissioners approve an overall, county-wide a countywide millage rate increase next month.

On Tuesday, commissioners made their first official announcement that they're considering what District 5 Commissioner Lee May called "a 27 percent increase"Β  in the county millage rate, from 16.86 to 21.36 mills.

Dunwoody would see an increase of 1.73 mills, from its current, county millage rate of 13.36 to 15.09. The city has its own millage rate as well.

In Dunwoody, where property owners pay city taxes as well as county taxes, the rate imposed by DeKalb County is lower. Under the proposal discussed Tuesday, the county tax rate in Dunwoody would rise from 13.36 to 15.09.

DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis is proposing a slightly smaller countywide increase.

The commission will make its final vote at its July 12 meeting.
