Dunwoody City Council Preview: Finalizing City Contracts, 2012 Budget, Repaving

Dunwoody’s City council is likely to approve the final new contract for the city, set to start in 2012.

The council approved five contracts to companies this summer to provide the following – planning and zoning, inspections and permitting, finance and administration, marketing and public relations and information technology.

The lowest bidder in the rebid was Lowe Engineers, at a four-year price of $1.995 million, more than $300,000 lower than the second lowest bid.

The council is expected to approve Lowe Monday night at its regular meeting.

The new contracts, over four years, is expected to save the city $3.44 million as compared to what the city had been paying.

 

Resurfacing grant

The council will vote on a Georgia Department of Transportation grant for up to $194,988 for local maintenance and improvement for road resurfacing.

The city would use the money for milling, patching and paving on:

• Fleur De Lis Court

• Hensley Drive

• Holliston Court

• Manhasset Farm Court

• Ralston Court

• Strasburg Court

• Trowbridge Drive

 

2012 budget

The council will have a public hearing on an ordinance to adopt proposed capital and operating budgets for 2012 (see attached PDF for latest available 2012 budget draft).

While the tax rate for residents will remain flat, the budget forecasts a 1.62 percent increase in the city’s tax digest.

Changes over 2011 include the hiring of three new staff members – an assistant city manager and two deputy court clerks. The positions had previously been contracted.

 

Also on the agenda, the council will…

• vote to add an appraisal requirement to the city’s purchasing policy.

• get an update on the ChatComm switch over from Police Chief Billy Grogan.

• hear about a Dunwoody Village ice skating attraction

• will vote on some amendments to the 2011 operating and capital budgets

• will adopt proposed capital and operating budgets for 2012
