Consultant: DeKalb schools are overstaffed

Nearly 130 assistant principal jobs should be cut, according to report

A consultant is recommending that DeKalb County schools cut hundreds of positions because the system is overstaffed compared to other districts of its size, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The AJC reports that the consultant recommends cutting 129 assistant principals, 40 school secretaries and 11 media specialists, while looking for savings in art, music, education teachers, mail couriers, graduation coaches and custodians.

Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson called for a vote Friday on cutting positions within the district, according to the report.
