Updated Traffic Alert: Road Closed by Gas Leak

Police have closed Ashford Dunwoody Road southbound just south of Interstate 285 due to a gas main break. Drivers need to find an alternate route home tonight.

Updated at 6 p.m.

Dunwoody Police, along with the DeKalb County Fire Department and the Brookhaven Police Department, have closed Ashford Dunwoody Road southbound just south of Interstate 285 due to a gas main break.

One lane of Ashford Dunwoody Road southbound opened along with the I-285 eastbound off ramp at about 5:30 p.m.

According to the Dunwoody Police Facebook page, Atlanta Gas is on the scene but has not provided a time when the repairs will be complete.

The road closure has affected traffic on I-285 eastbound, as well as traffic headed southbound on Ashford Dunwoody into Brookhaven.

Police are asking drivers to use an alternate route through the area. Possible alternate routes would be Chamblee Dunwoody Road southbound to Harts Mill road. Turn right onto Harts Mill Road, which will lead back to Ashford Dunwoody Road.

Another alternate route would be Perimeter Center Parkway to Lake Hearn, left onto Lake Hearn to Ashford Dunwoody Road.

Stay tuned for updates.
