Property Crimes Dominate Dunwoody Police Statistics

2010 was the first time the Dunwoody Police Department submitted statistics for national crime report.

Property crimes, including burglaries, larcenies, and motor vehicle thefts, constituted most of Dunwoody’s criminal activities in 2010, according to recently released crime statistics from the FBI.

Last year was the first time the Dunwoody Police Department  submitted statistics to the FBI, according to the department’s community outreach unit.

According to statistics from the 2010 Crime in the United States report, Dunwoody reported 1,691 property crimes. A total of 79 percent were larceny-theft, defined by the FBI as “the unlawful taking, carrying, leading, or riding away of property from the possession or constructive possession of another.”

Burglaries constituted 14 percent of the city's remaining property crimes, while motor-vehicle thefts equaled 7 percent. Arson also is included, but no incidents were reported.

Dunwoody also reported 103 violent crimes; 49 percent of those were robberies, and 41 percent were aggravated assaults. Forcible rapes (7 percent) and murder/non-negligent manslaughters (3 percent) rounded out the category.
