Police Crack Down on Drivers Who Don't Yield to Pedestrians

Dunwoody police issued several tickets to drivers who failed to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk on Mount Vernon Road Wednesday.

Not all Dunwoody drivers are yielding the right-of-way in crosswalks to pedestrians.

After receiving several complaints from residents about vehicles failing to stop at a crosswalk, the Dunwoody Police Department was out to check the location Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were monitoring a pedestrian crosswalk on Mount Vernon Road as vehicles zoomed by. The crosswalk has multiple safety features in place.

As a result of the check, six citations for failing the right-of-way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk were issued, police said.

β€œOne accident involving a car and a pedestrian or cyclist is too many and could have catastrophic results. Undercover details such as this one helps bring much-needed attention to this important safety concern. Our hope is the attention generated as a result of this detail and the citations issued will cause our motoring public to use more caution when approaching crosswalks and pedestrians and yield to the pedestrians as required by law,” said Dunwoody Police Chief Billy Grogan in a statement.
