start the car with what looked like a house key, Abouelnasr said.

“I thought she was mistaken at first,” she said. “Then I realized she was really trying to steal the car.”

So Abouelnasr and her boyfriend took the suitcase out of the car; it popped open and inside was a coffee grinder, a VCR, an old Nikon camera and two toasters. Abouelnasr’s boyfriend tried to get the woman out of the car, who began to yell for police.

The woman, later identified as Ashley Robin Fletcher, 26, of Warner Robins, then got out of the vehicle and opened the passenger door of a vehicle next to their car, Abouelnasr said. Fletcher slid over to the driver’s seat, leaving the passenger door open, and started the car.

“She sped off backwards,” Abouelnasr said. “The door slammed into my boyfriend’s hand and his hand started bleeding.”

The door hit Abouelnasr and her car too.

Fletcher allegedly sped off, with the passenger door bent backwards, and the police were called. Within a few minutes, police were on the scene. By the time Abouelnasr was pulling into her driveway at home, police had found Fletcher and the vehicle, spotted because of the bent back door.

Police told Abouelnasr that Fletcher was on heroin.

“We’re just praying for her and her family,” Abouelnasr said. “It could have been a lot worse. We just hope that she’s OK and that her family is OK. She definitely needs some help.”

Fletcher allegedly had stolen a vehicle earlier in the night from Chamblee and resisted when police tried to arrest her.
