Police Blotter July 10-16: Rash of Burglaries Hits Dunwoody

This blotter is collected from the daily crime reports and news releases from the Dunwoody Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Burglary

• A residence on the 4800 block of Twin Lakes Trail was reported broken into in the early morning hours of July 10. $2,115 in cash was reported stolen.

• Just more than $40,000 in jewelry, including necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets were reported stolen from a residence on the 5300 block of Seaton Drive on the night of July 11.

• A 19-year-old Doraville man was arrested for allegedly stealing $40 from a home on the 4800 block of Twin Lakes Trail in the early afternoon of July 12.

• Three Apple iPod Touches worth a total of $700 were reported stolen from a home on the 5100 block of Peachford Circle on the afternoon of July 12.

• A residence was reported burglarized on the 2300 block of Dunwoody Crossing on the afternoon of July 12. A 37-inch flat screen TV, diamond earrings, an Apple iPod, a CD player, a microwave, a cordless phone, several pairs of shoes and clothing were reported stolen. The stolen items were valued at $3,450.

• A $4,500 platinum anniversary band, a $2,500 pair of platinum earrings and $50 in costume jewelry were reported stolen from a residence on the 4000 block of Dunwoody Park on the evening of July 12.

• A residence was reported burglarized on the 300 block of Perimeter Center North on the morning of July 13. Nothing was listed stolen in the initial police report.

• A home was reported burglarized on the 2300 block of Waterton Court on the evening of July 13. Diamond rings, a gold bracelet, a gold necklace and Fairfax silver flatware worth a total of $17,904 were reported stolen.

• A burglary was reported at a residence on the 6700 block of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard just before midnight on Saturday.

• An Xbox 360, a Playstation 3, a Nintendo Wii, a Sony flatscreen television, a LG TV and an HP mini were reported stolen from a residence on the 4700 block of Ashford Dunwoody Road on Friday evening. The stolen items were valued at $3,701.

• A 37-inch Samsung LCD TV worth $549.88 and $1,500 in jewelry were reported stolen from a residence on the 2400 block of Dunwoody Crossing on the evening of July 11.

 

Marijuana grow operation

• Two Dunwoody residents, a 22-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, were arrested on the afternoon of July 12 for allegedly having a marijuana grow operation from their residence on the 6600 block of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Police were called when someone saw marijuana growing in plain site in their apartment. Inside, police found three marijuana plants and several smoking devices.

 

Drug, weapon and kidnapping arrest

• A 40-year-old Covington man was arrested in the early morning hours of Saturday after he was pulled over on the 4500 block of Chamblee Dunwoody Road. He was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a weapon – knife, kidnapping an adult, attempting to elude officer and several other traffic violations. He’s being held on $3,000 bond.

 

Car theft

• A white 2004 BMW 325i was reported stolen from a parking lot on the 4500 block of Ashford Dunwoody Road on the evening of July 11. The vehicle was valued at $30,000.

• A red 1987 Chevy Monte Carlo with 22-inch chrome rims was reported stolen from a parking lot on the 4700 block of Ashford Dunwoody Road on Friday night. The vehicle was valued at $6,500.

 

Forgery

• Two suspects, a 40-year-old Decatur man and a 35-year-old Dunwoody man, were arrested on the 4700 block of Ashford Dunwoody Road on the afternoon of July 13 on felony charges of First Degree forgery.

• A forgery in the amount of $16,800 was reported at a bank on the 1600 block of Mount Vernon Road on Friday afternoon.

 

Car break-ins

• Two laptop computers – a Dell worth $1,500 and an HP worth $1,000 – were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on the 4300 block of Ashford Dunwoody Road on the morning of July 10.

• Three Dell laptop computers, a laptop bag, two passports, two wallets and a Garmin GPS were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on the 200 block of Perimeter Center Parkway on the afternoon of July 13. In total, the items were valued at $4,122.

• A passport, $45 in cash, a radio and a purse were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on the 5300 block of Chamblee Dunwoody Road on the morning of July 13. The items were valued at $171.

• A Toshiba laptop computer worth $500 was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on the 4600 block of Holliston Road on the morning of July 12.

• A vehicle was reported broken into on the night of July 12 on the 4400 block of Ashford Dunwoody Road. A duffel bag with clothing, an Apple Macbook, an iPad, a pair of Air Jordan shoes and a Canon camera were reported stolen. The items were valued at a total of $2,815.

• A spool of copper wire, a Combihammer and a rotary hammer drill were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on the 5000 block of Winters Chapel Road on the afternoon of July 14. The stolen items were valued at $4,185.

 

Shoplifting

• A 31-year-old Atlanta man was arrested on July 10 for allegedly attempting to steal nine DVDs worth $90 from Wal-Mart.

• Two pairs of jeans worth a total of $395 were reported stolen from Dillard’s at the Perimeter Mall on the evening of July 11.

• A 43-year-old Marietta woman was arrested for allegedly trying to steal several t-shirts worth a total of $48.78 from Macy’s at the Perimeter Mall on the evening of July 12.

• A 27-year-old Atlanta woman was arrested on the afternoon of July 13 for allegedly trying to steal several shirts worth a total of $96 from Macy’s at the Perimeter Mall.

• A 63-year-old Atlanta woman was arrested on Saturday afternoon for allegedly attempting to steal a pair of $38 gold Nadri earrings from Nordstrom at the Perimeter Mall.

 

Solicitation

• A 22-year-old Murfreesboro, Tenn. man was arrested for allegedly illegally soliciting in the Peeler Road neighborhood on July 10. The man was allegedly trying to sell magazine subscriptions, telling people that the proceeds would help members of the military – which police said wasn’t true. He faces three charges of solicitation.

 

Theft

• An HTC cell phone worth $150 was reported stolen from a kiosk at the Perimeter Mall on the evening of July 10.

• An Apple iPhone worth $400 was reported stolen from a building on the 5300 block of Tilly Mill Road on the morning of July 13.

• Four rims and tires worth a total of $3,000 were reported stolen off of a 2003 GMC Yukon parked on the 4500 block of Pineridge Circle on the evening of July 13.

• Wheels and tires worth a total of $600 were reported stolen from a 2010 Toyota Corolla parked on the 2300 block of Dunwoody Crossing on the morning of July 14.

• Computer hardware valued at $100,000 was reported stolen from a business on the 50 block of Perimeter Center East on the morning of July 14.

• Mail was reported stolen from a residence on the 2200 block of Dunwoody Crossing on the morning of July 14.

 

Disorderly conduct

• An 18-year-old Atlanta man was arrested on the night of July 10 for allegedly taking a swing at police officer, who was responding to a domestic dispute at residence on the 2300 block of Dunwoody Crossing. After trying to punch the officer, the male fled but was caught.

 

Concealed weapon

• A 25-year-old Dunwoody man was arrested on the morning of July 11 for allegedly carrying a concealed weapon on the 6900 block of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.
