Dunwoody Officer Hurt in Car Accident

Officer Richard Heintz has been off duty since an accident on the I-285.

A Dunwoody police officer was recently injured by a motorist while on duty helping construction crews, according to police.

Officer Richard Heintz was parked Sept. 21 in his patrol vehicle blocking off an under- construction lane on the I-285. He was struck from behind by a motorist who was traveling at 45 m.p.h.

Heintz was wearing his seatbelt during the accident, but suffered injuries to his back, shoulder and neck. The motorist that caused the accident was not injured, police say.
