More petty crimes at Brook Run Park

A pair of purses were stolen Saturday

Petty crimes keep happening in Brook Run Park, according to Dunwoody Police.

At around noon Saturday, two purses that were left unattended in separate vehicles were stolen.

One car was parked near the playground in Brook Run Park, located on the 4700 block of North Peachtree Road. The other car was parked near the dog park.

Sgt. Mike Carlson, spokesman for the Dunwoody Police, said that a suspect in the incident might have been identified because the suspect cut themselves breaking into one of the vehicles.

“The purses were in plain view,” Carlson said. “That’s how they are usually stolen.”

Brook Run Park has been an issue with police lately. The 101-acre park was first hit with vandalism in the dog park on March 26. Chairs were damaged and vandals lit dog feces on fire, according to police.

The following week, the and up to $4,000 in damage was suffered. The community garden had vegetables destroyed that organizers were going to give a local food pantry. Fencing around the garden that protects it from deer was also damaged.

Police have stepped up regular patrols in the park, which is locked up at night by police no later than 11 p.m.  Police have also sent foot patrols to the park to dissuade crime.

Police are also offering $1,500 for information that leads to an arrest in the vandalism at the community garden.
