Local Events Remembering 9/11

Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 with these area events.

  • 9/11 10th Anniversary Memorial Celebration

When/Where: 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the , 6025 Glenridge Drive

Details: The event will honor those who died on 911 and all those who preserve, protect, and defend our freedom, especially those who have given their lives since 911. The Georgia State University Brass Band will play and representatives of the Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities will offer prayer. Vice Admiral Conrad C. Lautenbacher, Jr., U.S. Navy (Ret.), will speak as well as other guest speakers.

Cost: Free.

  • September 11th Remembrance Festival

When/Where: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Church of Saint Andrew, 5855 Riverside Drive

Details: Come, thank your Public Safety Responders and enjoy free food and drinks, family fun and live music.

  • 1st Annual 9-11 Victory Run Around Chastain Park

When/Where: 2 p.m. Sunday at Chastain Park, , 3905 Powers Ferry Road NE.

Details: Join the American Legion and Friends for the 1st Annual 9-11 Victory Run around Chastain Park.  This will be a day to salute veterans and soldiers, honor the lives of those lost on September 11, 2001 and celebrate the freedom we enjoy as Americans. The 5k Run/Walk starts and ends at the Ryan P. Means Legion Hut located on the South end of Chastain Park, off Powers Ferry Road.  All Proceeds will benefit American Legion Post 140.

Cost: Adults $25. Day of event $30. Children 18 & under $15.00. Buy Tickets.

  • 9/11 Remembrance: A Service of Peace, Hope and Remembrance

When/Where: 4:15 p.m. gathering, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. interfaith service, Sunday at , 3180 Peachtree Rd NE

Details: The community is invited to gather at 4:15 pm to express gratitude to local firefighters, police and emergency response teams, as well as experience music selected for this commemorative event.  At 5:00 pm, an interfaith service will begin in the Sanctuary featuring special prayers, music and message which will close with a significant procession of our children. Program includes the southeastern premiere of David Conte's September Sun, sung by the Chancel Choir, and the dedication of the Prayers for Peace memorial.

  • 9/11 Memorial Concert

When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 1790 Lavista Rd NE

Details: Maurice Durufle's Requiem and J.S. Bach's cantata 106, "Actus tragicus," will be presented in this concert as a memorial to the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In the Requiem, the choir of St. Bartholomew's Church will be joined by an orchestra, soprano Wanda Yang Temko and bass Jason Hardy. In the Bach cantata, a consort of early instruments will perform with an ensemble of 10 professional singers. 

Cost: $15 adults, $5 students.
