Dunwoody, Sandy Springs Police Participate in Torch Run

Two Departments run between Sandy Springs and Dunwoody to benefit Special Olympics Georgia

Thursday, the Dunwoody and Sandy Springs Police Departments took to the streets together for the Torch Run for the Special Olympics of Georgia.

According to a press release from the Dunwoody Police Department, the torth was passed across the state by local law enforcement for the last two weeks and was placed at the State Summer Games Opening Ceremonies on Friday night.

Friday morning, members of the final leg team, helped light the 'Flame of Hope' on the steps of the state capitol.

The torch passing was to announced the 2011 Final Leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run and to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run in Georgia, according to Dunwoody Police.

The torch represents the “Flame of Hope” that law enforcement officer’s pass on to athletes before they begin competition at State Summer Games. This weekend at the games, 2,000 athletes will compete in gymnastics, aquatics, athletics, volleyball, soccer, tennis, flag football and more at Emory University.
