Dunwoody Police Warn Motorists for Holiday

The state's fatality rate is on track to be higher than any time in the last six years.

Dunwoody Police are warning drivers that there will be strict enforcement of DUI and traffic laws this season.

Why? The state is on track to surpass the number of traffic fatalities for the first time in six years.

According to estimates, if fatalities maintain their current rate thorough the end of the year, Georgia will surpass last year's number of 1,226 fatalities.

The Governor's Office of Highway Safety has launched Operation Safe Holidays to ask drivers to be extra careful on Georgia roads so the state doesn’t reach a 6-year milestone of traffic deaths.

“We always take this time of year to remind motorists that impaired driving is against the law 365 days a year in Georgia,” said GOHS Director Harris Blackwood. “And while Operation Zero Tolerance is still effect, we also want to urge everyone to be extra careful as they hit the road this time of year. A great Christmas present for me would be seeing everyone get home safe and sound this holiday season.”

Drinking and driving is among the most selfish, self-centered, non-caring crimes there is. I applaud the system for pounding these individuals and hope the DUI lawyers are the ones who get run over, not the typical innocents...

jimmie, I only wish it was this easy to get consensus on gun control and the benefits of new city Brookhaven. Oh well, it's a starting place.

Any new convert from Dekalb is a great thing! Brookhaven will have issues, as we have had, but..I'll say it again, the less Dekalb influence, the better! Gun control is the ultimate constitutional issue...I certainly enjoy packing a s&w and a ar 15; although in the wrong hands, either can spell serious trouble. Bottom line for me is I want to be able to equal the firepower of the bad guys!
