The Dunwoody Police is active in reaching out the community, dealing daily with grim crime across the community.
They post on Facebook, and interact wth the community through Twitter broadcasting some of the burglaries, thefts and robberies that are part of the communty unfortunately.
At 8 a.m. Oct. 21 there will be day to put the department's daily crime grind behind them.
The police department is participating along with the organizing Dunwoody Rotary Club who is sponsoring a "Run Dunwoody" event with the police department's sworn officers, other personnel and interested people from the community who want to particpate.
The race is a certified Peachtree qualifying 5-kilometer route, say police. It begins and ends at Perimeter Place across from Perimeter Mall. For those particpating outside the community the route is conveniently located near two MARTA stations.
The course is not designed for beginning runners; it's a fast and challenging course spanning the spectacular Perimeter Flyover Bridge and looping around Perimeter Summit, say race organizers.
The 5-kilometer event opens its doors for people around the community to participate. A 1-mile fun run for the family and kids will be a part of the event.
The race proceeds go to a charity that helps support law enforcement in the area - specifically, educational programs for local first responders.
Tuesday was supposed to be the last day to guarantee a Dri-Fit race shirt. The department is asking people to register here and join "Team Dunwoody" Police team.
