Dunwoody Police Make Arrests in Animal Cruelty Case

While serving an arrest warrant, officers discovered more than 70 rabbits that were left with little food or water.


While serving an arrest warrant, Dunwoody police officers found a house full of more than 70 rabbits with little food or water.

Police were attempting to arrest a woman for violating her probation, according to the department's Facebook page.

"While at the house and arresting the subject, they also arrested another subject for a failure to appear warrant and a third subject for possession of drugs," the department said.

Officers also found 77 rabbits in the house, some showing signs of neglect or abuse. DeKalb County Animal Control as well as a group of animal rescue personnel from Bremen, GA, took custody of the animals.

A child in the home was turned over to a relative. Two of the subjects were also charged with animal cruelty.

According to 11Alive, 42-year-old Jessica Ly had failed to appear in court on a traffic violation. Police found her hiding in a bedroom, as well as a stash of illegal prescription drugs.

Officers also noticed a strange smell of ammonia in the house. That's when they discovered the rabbits roaming about.
