Dunwoody Police Headed Back to Icy Waters for a Good Cause

PD will participate in 2012 Polar Plunge

 

The Dunwoody Police Department is making an annual tradition of jumping into cold waters.

In February the department will take part in the 2012 Polar Plunge, a benefit for Special Olympics Georgia. It will be the third year that the departmetn is participating in the event.

Several members of the department have pledged to raise at least $50 for the Special Olympics Georgia.

Last year, the Department raised more than $12,000. They are looking to break that number this year.

Dunwoody Police Chief Billy Grogan is past State Director for the Law Enforcement Torch Run program which raises funds and awareness for Special Olympics Georgia, and is involved in many Special Olympics fundraisers throughout the year.

Statewide last year, police officers and agencies across the state raised almost $700,000. The goal over the next two years is to reach $1,000,000, the department said. 


Information on the Polar Plunge from the Dunwoody Police Department:

  • Held at Lake Lanier’s new LanierWorld at Sunset Cove on Feb. 18
  • Anyone who raises at least $50 can plunge into Lake Lanier and all proceeds go to Special Olympics Georgia.
  • The department has created a Dunwoody Police Department team on the fundraising page for Special Olympics and all team plungers have joined the team with their personal fundraising page. The goal is for the Dunwoody Police Department team to lead all police departments in total funds raised. CLICK HERE if you would like to make a donation to the Dunwoody PD team. All donations are tax deductible. 
  • If you would like to join our team and plunge with the department, all are invited. You can also form your own team with a business, association, youth group, club, school, college, family or just about any other type of group.
