Dunwoody Police equipped with fingerprint scanners

New mobile device allows officers to identify if suspects are wanted

Dunwoody Police have a new tool to help officers in the field find someone who is wanted.

Dunwoody Police are now equipped with a device called the Rapid ID Mobile Fingerprint Scanner that can quickly identify people that patrol officers come into contact with.

The scanner uses two separate computer databases to match with the fingerprint scans on the mobile device. If there is a match, the background data and a picture of the suspect will appear on the screen.

The databases show officers whether the people they have stopped have any outstanding warrants. It also identifies whether suspects are on parole or probation.

Police report that the device has already assisted the Dunwoody Police Department in identifying several wanted people.
