Dunwoody Police Blotter July 31 to Aug. 6 - A Tip About AC Thefts

This blotter is collected from the daily crime reports and news releases from the Dunwoody Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Air Conditioner Thefts – A Tip From A Victim

On Monday Aug. 8, several businesses in the Dunwoody Place office complex at Peeler Road and North Shallowford Road noticed that their air conditioners went out.

The air conditioners were still outside of the buildings, but the business owners made calls to get them fixed, said Joy Calloway, a Paralegal at The Panitch Law Group, P.C.

However, the next morning, all of the units had been stolen.

Calloway said it appears that the AC units were drained of coolant the night before, then stolen the next day.

“Business owners need to be beware if their AC goes on the fritz and seems to be working, but not cooling,” Calloway wrote in an email.

She recommends calling the Dunwoody Police department before having someone come to service the AC.

“Then, the police might have a chance of surveillance of the property that night - before their unit is stolen, too,” she said.

Air conditioning units at businesses have been frequently targeted over the last two months around Dunwoody. The units cost anywhere between $1,000 and $6,000.

The thieves target the units for the copper and aluminum inside.
