Dunwoody PD Identify 'Person of Interest' in Peeler Road Murders

Still seeking more information/witnesses in the case, decline to name person of interest

The Dunwoody Police Department has identified a person of interest in July's Peeler Road double homicide.

On July 1, Roger and Dorothy Abbott were murdered in their home at 1962 Peeler Rd. DeKalb County Firefighters responded to a fire at the house and found the Abbott's bodies in the home.

Monday, police said they've identified a suspect in the case.

"We've uncovered what we believe to be a person of interest," said Detective Kelly Boyer.

The person of interest, who the department declined to identify, is believed to be the main suspect, or one of the main suspects.

"We don't know if there are any additional people involved," Boyer said.

A witness described a male who was walking in front of the Abbott's home on the day of the murders. He is described as a white male, 40-45 years old, sandy red to brown hair with a slim to medium build (see sketch in story photos).

Boyer said the killer likely knew the Abbotts.

"It doesn't appear to be random at all," said Detective Kelly Boyer.

The Dunwoody Police Department has been working hard on the case, she said, interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence and checking out leads. The person of interest was a result of that work.

The department has been working with the ATF, Sandy Springs Police Department, FBI and GBI on the case.

Boyer said the police department is still asking anyone with any information on the crime, suspects or any other information in relation to the incident, to come forward. People can approach the department directly with information, or submit information anonymously through TipSoft, which allows tips to be sent via text message or online.

Tips can be submitted via text by sending DPDTIPS and the message to the number 274637, or online at www.crimereports.com or through the police department's site www.dunwoodypolice.com
