Dunwoody Honors Women Who Saved Youth

Courtney Lynch saved 11-year-old Tyran Dixon after he was pulled from a pool, unconscious and not breathing.

The city of Dunwoody is formally recognizing a Woodstock woman who helped save a local 11-year-old from drowning in May.

Courtney Lynch, a Woodstock resident and a student at Fortis College in Smyrna, saved Tyran Dixon after he was pulled from a pool unconscious and not breathing, according to police and eyewitness accounts.

She cleared water from the youth's lungs and performed CPR until he regained consciousness and was able to breathe on his own. Dunwoody Police responded to the emergency and Dunwoody Officer Brian Lauda found the boy being revived by Lynch.

“Lynch provided life-saving aid to the victim and kept me well informed of his status until DeKalb County Fire/EMS arrived on scene,” said Officer Lauda. “There is no doubt in my mind that Courtney Lynch saved that little boy’s life that day.  She displayed unbelievable calm and professionalism in the face of a crisis.  It was an extremely chaotic scene filled with dozens of bystanders and she performed flawlessly.”

The city and police department both recognized Lynch at a ceremony that was held at City Hall, according to city officials. Lynch plans to graduate school in August and become an Emergency Medical Technician.
