DeKalb Police Closing North Precinct

The precinct said the decision was made because of the incorporation of Dunwoody and Brookhaven.

After 26 years of service, DeKalb county police department will soon close its north precinct.

In a Tuesday Facebook post, the precinct said the decision was made because of the incorporation of Dunwoody and Brookhaven.

A WSB article on Tuesday said the 28 officers who had covered Brookhaven – which now has its own police – will be on patrol in other parts of unincorporated DeKalb.

The county's interim CEO, Lee May, said in the WSB story: "Our residents in DeKalb will absolutely have better service, you will see quicker response time and I think that you will see safer communities, that is our whole goal."

The precinct's Facebook post reads:

It is with great regret that we announce the closing of the DeKalb County Police North Precinct.

This decision was made due to the incorporation's of Dunwoody and Brookhaven. The transfer of officers to other precincts will begin soon and will be completed in 60 days.

The remaining territories in the North Precinct will be transferred to the newly named North-Central Precinct located off N. Lake Pkwy and the Tucker Precinct. A detailed map will be posted soon indicating t
he changes. Over the next 60 days the old North territory will be serviced by both precincts.

We appreciate the support of the public over the last 26 years. We also believe we provided a superior service during those years. The hearts of the North Precinct officers were always in the right place as they worked hard to keep you safe.

Thank You for your continued support.
