In the column, Grogan reminded folks how Boston Police used Twitter to correct erroneous media reports such as the arrest of a suspect and an alert insisting that news organizations pull back on information and not compromise safety during the search of homes.

Grogan said the Boston Police Department’s Twitter followers increased from 40,000 to more than 300,000 in the days after the bombings.
